How is Hollywood Races a legal service?

Many people can but not everyone. Hollywood Races allows users to open advance deposit wagering accounts and transmit pari-mutuel wagering information to participating racetracks around the United States.  Advance deposit wagering accounts and pari-mutuel wagering are legal in many but not all U.S. States.  Even in States where advance deposit wagering accounts and pari-mutuel wagering are legal, Hollywood Races may be unavailable for internal business reasons. You must be at least 18-years of age to open an account and some states have higher age requirements for opening accounts. Please see our Eligibility Policy for more details.

Can I watch the races live online and from the mobile app?

Hollywood Races offers sharp and reliable streaming video of races from all of our participating racetracks. If your account does not have any wagering activity for 45 days, or unusual video usage patterns are found with an account, we reserve the right to lock your account. In order to unlock your account you will need to call customer service.

Why do you need my social security number?

Your social security number is needed upon registration because we are required by law to report certain winnings to the IRS. To better understand what winnings are reported, please see the question below.

Are my winnings taxed?

In general, winning wagers are reportable to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when the winnings are: (1) $600 or more; and (2) at least 300 times the amount of the wager (or “Reportable Winning Wagers”). Reportable Winning Wagers are filed with the IRS using Form W-2G.

If winnings minus the wager exceed $5,000 and the winnings are at least 300 times the wager, then federal income tax must be withheld at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%).  Such withholding applies to the total amount of winnings less the amount of the wager, not merely the amount in excess of $5,000.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, if a winner fails to provide the correct SSN, federal income tax must nonetheless be withheld at a rate of twenty-eight percent (28%) even though the reportable winning wagers fail to exceed the $5,000 threshold.  Any federal income tax withholding is reported using Form W-2G.

You may be subject to additional state and local taxes based on your state of residence. Hollywood Races will report all taxes as required by law.

Handicapping Information & Video

What handicapping information on the races is available?

We offer a wide variety of Thoroughbred & Harness racing information for participating tracks running each day.  In the “Free Picks” section of the website Hollywood Races plans to offer free stakes selections and analysis every Friday for selected feature races for that weekend and free daily selections from local on-site personalities and handicappers at several PENN Entertainment affiliated racetracks for each racing day.

In addition, customers may purchase a large variety of handicapping materials, including daily racing programs, in our MY STORE tab within your wagering page. Additionally, past performances are offered on a complimentary basis for several international tracks and be alert for special promotions on free or discounted handicapping materials.

Are video streaming and race replays available?

Yes. Live video streaming and race replays are available to active wagering account holders for all tracks available.  Ability to access video may be based on satisfying any of the minimum wagering activity listed below:

  • A minimum of $10 wagered in the previous calendar month, Or:
  • A minimum of $10,000 wagered in in the current calendar year.

Management reserves the right to restrict video usage when wagering requirements are not met, when abuse of the live video streaming is suspected, or at their discretion.

Why does my video disappear when I click on the "box" symbol next to the "x" on the video screen?

This occurs when your internet browser is "Blocking Pop-Up's." We recommend using Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari browsers and disabling your "Pop-Up Blocker" for Hollywoodraces.com to get the best video watching experience possible.

Why does my video not show up on when I first log in?

This is to allow you to customize how you would like to assign the racetracks to the three video locations on the screen. In order to assign and load up a track for video, simply locate that track on the left side of the page and click on the small "drop-down arrow" which will give you the options to make it a favorite, play the video on the left, play the video in the middle or play the video on the right. By assigning various tracks to different parts of the screen, you can easily watch three tracks at once and toggle them back and forth as you'd like! By making a track a "favorite" you can then use the "Tracks Module" on the left side of the page to only display your favorite tracks.
