Picks & Analysis for Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies- In looking at the races for this year this is my favorite race and I think it has the potential to be one of the best races over the two day championship weekend. The field is deep and features four potential superstars in the Filly & Mare division, with Donna Veloce, British Idiom, Bast, and Wicked Whisper all set to battle it out on Friday.

This race will come down to the pace. There are some very quick horses in this field and I believe two of the favorites will be out there battling early. Donna Veloce looked incredible in here debut winning her maiden voyage in a romp at Santa Anita on 9/28. She won the 6 1/2 furlong contest by over 9 lengths and earned a field best 91 Beyer. From the rail I expect Prat to not have much of a choice but to send her to the front right out of the gate. Wicked Whisper also has plenty of early natural speed and has been out front in both of her starts including her most recent in the one turn mile G1 Frizette at Belmont.

I believe there are a few scenarios that potentially play out in this race. One is that in which Donna Veloce or Wicked Whisper control the race early and go gate to wire on the lead. Another in which Wicked Whisper is able to rate off of Donna Veloce who goes early and is dueled up by Two Sixty. Or the scenario I'm expecting and hoping, Donna Veloce, Two Sixty and Wicked Whisper all are close early setting a solid pace for my selection British Idiom to pick up the pieces. British Idiom is proven over two turns after dominating the G1 Alcibiades at Keeneland in her last start and I believe this race shapes up really well for her running style. Bast out of the Baffert barn is another horse who this pace scenario would help out greatly. She comes in as the only two time G1 winner in the field including the two turn Chandelier over this track in her last start. I will be using her on top as well.

If you like playing long shots while I'm not sure this is the race to pull the trigger I do have some interest in Perfect Alibi and K P Dreamin. Perfect Alibi was 2nd to British Idiom in the Alcibiades and despite not having the same speed figures as the horses in here she has continued to take small steps forward each race. She's been around two turns and the pace could shape up well for her especially if Casse's other entrant Two Sixty presses the pace as I expect her to do. K P Dreamin comes in off a third place finish behind Bast and Comical in the Chandelier. In that race the expected speed lost the jockey at the start and the whole landscape of the race changed. the filly by Union Rags has the pedigree to run all day and if there is a hot pace in front of her she has the makings of a horse that could potentially light up the tote board.
